- Letter to Norfolk Strikers Parents - sent 1/23/2017
Dear Soccer Families:
After 6 months of meaningful due diligence, many discussions and meetings, and given the current state of the Strikers’ administrative organization, the Striker’s Board recently voted to reorganize and merge with Beach FC of Virginia Beach. This opportunity allows us to benefit from the management of a solid, well-organized club and to provide quality club soccer in Norfolk into the future.
One of the great concerns the Strikers’ Board had during this process was it did not want Norfolk soccer to leave Norfolk and this was an important aspect of our discussions with the leadership at Beach FC. Rest assured, everyone involved is committed to ensuring that Norfolk soccer will not suffer from this merger, but instead flourish with the administrative support and exceptional coaching and organization that a combined club will provide to our Striker families.
Some programs will be supported administratively by Beach FC effective immediately, with others to be transitioned in at the end of the spring season.
Recreation, Advanced, Academy: Beginning with the spring 2017 season, registration for the Strikers’ Recreation, Academy and Advanced programs will be transitioned to Beach FC. Registration is open now so you can sign up and begin making preparations for your spring soccer season. Beach FC uses the same Blue Sombrero registration process that the Strikers has used over the course of the past year, and therefore the transition should be fairly seamless. You will need to create an account in the Beach FC system for the spring season, but then moving forward your registration information will be saved.
- Select the "REGISTER" button in the top right hand corner of the landing page
- Create an account (using adult information)
- Add the player(s) as a participant(s)
- From the list of available registration options, choose the desired “NORFOLK” program.
Travel: The Strikers’ travel program will be unaffected in the spring of 2017 and travel players will continue to play with the same team and be coached by the same coach. The details of travel squad tryouts for next year will be communicated as we continue to work out the details of the merger and how it will affect the travel teams. It is important to note that the organization is committed to keeping practices and games in Norfolk, including continuing to utilize Norfolk Collegiate and play home games at Lake Taylor.
We are aware this merger will inevitability trigger many questions from parents and players. Working together with Beach FC, we have compiled a preliminary list of questions and answers and posted them on the Beach FC website at www.beachfc.com/norfolk. Questions not addressed in the FAQ document can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org, and if relevant to the general soccer community they may be added to the FAQ list. If necessary, we will hold a community meeting in the near future in order to have an open dialogue on the matter.
As we move forward in this new adventure together, the Strikers organization is excited that Beach FC will continue to develop quality programs in Norfolk so our children can thrive in their love of the game of soccer.
