HAMPTON ROADS PIRANHAS SUPER Y-LEAGUE

Super Y League

The Hampton Roads Piranhas are gearing up to host their first season of the Super Y-League. The Super Y-League is a program run through the professional league United Soccer League (USL) and sanctioned by US Club soccer.

The regular season league games will start beginning of June and end by mid-August. The regular season league consists of 10-14 games. Each team will practice twice a week. The teams winning their division will be invited to compete in the Super Y Nationals in Florida (usually in November).

Over 100 clubs throughout the country participate in the Super Y-League. Our South Atlantic conference consists of Atlantic Fire, Atlanta Silverbacks, Carolina Dynamo, Charlotte Soccer Club, Fredericksburg, Northern Virginia Majestics and Royals, Raleigh CASL, Richmond Kickers, Richmond Strikers and Triangle FC.

Players will try out for their current age group. For instance, if the player is currently a U15 player, then he/she would try out for the U15 Super Y team. Each Super Y coach will able to select up to 26 players for the team. However, only 18 players will dress on game day.

Lodging and transportation will be established by the Hampton Roads Piranhas. This year, we do have a full weekend of games scheduled away. Hotel reservations will be made via the office and the team managers. Cost of lodging and transportation is not included in the Super Y player fee.

Age Groups

The Hampton Roads Piranhas will place great importance on the Super Y-League and the age groups that we are hosting. We will host six Super Y teams:

Note: The age groups will not change from the age the player is currently playing during the Spring. Example, a U13 Boy will be U13 Boy through the summer league, a U14 Girl will be U14 Girls, however because we do not have a U14G team, she would try out for the U15G team. If an age group is not available (U12, U14, U16) the prospective player would tryout a year up.

Super Y Tryouts

The Hampton Roads Piranhas Super-Y Tryouts for U13, U15 and U17 boys/girls teams are open to all players from all clubs (bring a friend!). Important! Players are expected to attend both tryouts. It is at the coach’s discretion to add players to the pool as the Spring progresses.

Vision

One of the main goals is to have players participate in a developmental model in one club that offers Youth Super Y-League, Super 20 (college), semi-professional (PDL) and professional (W-League). This model is similar to the successful player development models in countries where soccer is their primary sport.

Schedule

This year’s schedule will be spread over the months of June, July and August. The flexible schedule takes into account family vacation and camp schedules. Roster minimum of 22 players make it easier to accommodate player conflicts. This type of roster size integrates premier and club players with elite players and coaches.

Payments

Super Y-League fee - $495.00

Fees will go to:

There is a $175.00 non-refundable deposit due upon signing, February 22, 2008. The deposit is included in the $495 cost.

Travel

Player and coaches travel is not included in this fee. Each team is responsible for maintaining a team budget to pay for coaches/team travel expenses. League schedules have not been finalized at this time (expect the league schedule to be released by mid-April). We travel as a club (Hampton Roads Piranhas), and do our best to have all teams playing in the same area to give a better chance of support from all of our players. Buses may be used only for Atlanta (if we have to travel there). For other locations such as Northern Virginia, Raleigh, Greensboro and Charlotte, we will carpool.
