Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- What is the tryout process? What if my player can only make one of the two dates?
- The process starts with registering your player, either on line or in person on the day of tryouts. Once registration is complete, you can pick up your registration packet at the BFC office or at the field. Ensure the player checks in with the field coach. If your player can only make one of the two dates, try to let the coach know ahead of time. Dates/times for each age group are posted to the website and if you pre-registered, it is in your packet.
- What are the fees and what do they cover?
- The fees cover the following: Coaches fees, summer team camp, technical training sessions, usage of Shipps Corner Training Facility, administrative fees, etc., etc. (for complete list of what is covered, see BFC website)
- Are these fees a one time for the year or are they paid by season?
- There are club fees for both the fall and spring season (Spring season is much less for high school aged players because they are playing high school soccer and do not compete at the league level during that time). See website for the age group breakdown.
- Is there a way to offset fees, costs for travel?
- Yes. BFC has several ways a team and/or individual can conduct fundraising for their team and/or individual players. You may contact the BFC office for more information. Also, BFC has a need-based financial aid program for families in need. An application is available from the BFC office and is awarded based on need and availability of funds.
- Once my player joins BFC, how is he/she evaluated and on what basis?
- On a minimum, your player is evaluated before the end of each season. Some coaches provide evaluations monthly. Your player should know where they are at the end of each season.
- Does BFC have a dedicated practice facility?
- Shipps Corner is the designated club practice facility. Each team will be allowed to practice at the facility during a time slot to be decided by their coach. Teams are also encouraged to use city facilities allocated to BFC teams when Shipps Corner is closed due to wet conditions.
- What is the frequency of practices and how far do they travel?
- The teams practice a minimum of twice a week. In addition, technical training is offered to all our club players on Wednesday’s Fall and Spring season, as well as In-motion speed agility once a week. Travel will depend on what team your child plays for and whether they play in the VCCL or VSLI.
- How many tournaments can I expect my player to play in?
- Depends on age groups, but on average 3 tournaments a season based on the coaches selection. BFC conducts three tournaments that are mandatory for all teams to play in.
